description: The chapel fills the northern compartment. Arcades of glass-paned lancet window alcoves face into the inner bailey and provide lighting for the chapel. Twin great hearths dominate the north wall, and provide warmth and illumination for the chapel.

description: This is the crenellated top of the curtain wall. The crenellations are 4' in height. The thin inner wall facing the bailey is only 2' in height. The center rectangular interiors of the southeast compartments are covered with A-frame, adobe clay tile roofs, and all but the chapel are constructed over a flat, wood sub-roof. The northeast tower and the north gatehouse rise approximately ten feet above the curtain wall top.

location: North staircase towers and buttress G3.
designation: Staircase towers and buttress.
description: At a height of 40' above the bailey, the twin staircase towers (staircases L and R) open onto an adjoining buttress that connects the northeast and northwest curtain wall segments. The stone railing of the buttress provides partial cover for defenders, but is open to the elements. The staircase towers are also exposed structures, with an open archway facing the buttress and arrow loops on each wall. The towers do not readily access the curtain wall top.
