Codename: Tortoise
Shell Project Leader: Arthur Phylae Project Serial #: 2357456a.242 Project leader report; Phylae, Arthur, SIN 7634-635-04793: Project Tortoise Shell proceeds on schedule. Developed due to the increasing number of "Black Ice" attack utilities appearing in the hands of so-called "shadowrunners," Project "Tortoise Shell" has exceeded all expectations and will give our deckers a decisive advantage. Utilizing a fiber mesh suit with interlaced circuitry, the Tortoise Shell enables a decker to enter the matrix using a virtual heads-up display to access programs and to navigate. Due to the lack of cybernetic interface, "Black Ice" attack utilities, when wielded by another decker, have no effect on a decker utilizing the Tortoise Shell Matrix Interface. Black IC, operating within a system, may still "dump" a decker, causing him to lose his connection with the Matrix. Physical limitations keep a decker operating within a Tortoise Shell from reacting quite so fast as a decker utilizing a traditional top-of-the-line deck with datajack interface, but still exponentially faster than a traditional "tortoise" interface. Components cost approximately 1.5X more than those a traditional deck, with an online storage capacity roughly 50% larger than an equivalent cyberdeck. Software applications for a suit cost approximately 80% of those in a traditional cyberdeck due to the lessened speed requirements. Primary hardware is located within a series of slim plates along the back and legs of the suit. This necessitates at least a large briefcase for transport. In regards to operating within Fuchi systems, the suit appears to show a marked >>BLOCK DELETE 3.5MP<< ****Base cost of suit is ¥25,000. Prices are calculated as
for a normal deck, with all hardware 150% normal cost, and software at 80%
normal. Reaction is the decker's normal, physical reaction, limited
by the reaction of the deck. Rather than bog you down with
additional rules, I encourage you to develop your own version of the
"official" rules within your own campaigns.**** | ||
