Welp, it looks like interest has waned for my EPT game.
Was a good run of over a year. Not bad for the PbP format.
I think the original feel I got from EPT would be better served using the Savage Worlds rules.
The original rules seem to not excite people.
While it is not all about the rules, having them grate on nerves doesn't help.

Have you looked at any of the Finger And Toe card models? They make a Mayan city and temple, which is pretty handy.

Definitely a good result for PbP, indeed!

OK, seems like I wasn't the only one to think that. Though I was actually thinking a "Honor+Tekumel", "Flashing Obsidian", "Travellers of Tekumel", "Tekumel Yojimbo", "OREkumel", "Unknown Tekumel", or "Powered by the Tekumel" game would be a better match!
(For those that think I've gone mad, I'm talking about reskinning Honor+Intrigue, Flahing Blades, Classic Traveller/Traveller 5/Mongoose Traveller, Usagi Yojimbo, some variant of One Roll Engine, or Unknown Armies v2 or v3, have your pick. All of them are a lot like Savage Worlds, except even faster and smoother-though admittedly, T5 is only faster if you reskin a lot).
Until then, though, we've got Bethorn. Which isn't a bad ruleset, just nothing special, either.

    Word.
And it would be nice to have them actually, you know, helping. Or else, we can just go for a "roll d100 and compare, than narrate according to the difference" without any need for further number-related (as opposed to setting-related) rules.
It seems that MAR Barker had opted for exactly that variant. I can totally see why, too.
But it's not the only option, and some options might fit better with other groups.

It is good to have options that the potential players are comfortable with, not just the GM.

So, if I may ask, were the issues with the EPT rules or with the Tekumel world-setting? I guess I'm slightly confused...

I find that the players quickly get comfortable with the options they've been offered, as long as the GM is willing to do some explaining.

Uncle, over an year is quite good for a Play by Post game. We're mostly debating how the experience could be improved!

Most complaints that were given in the past were directed at the rules but there were some about things not meeting "Midwest American" expectations.
An obvious class based society can be uncomfortable to Americans.
    I didn't push it a lot but I also didn't ignore it.

It ended in a slugfest, that could have gone differently.
Instead of "playing it out" attention turned elsewhere.

    ... or so I assume

For me, anyway, EPT is another OD&D variant. And since I prefer 1st ed AD&D, that's what I use. Wasn't hard to houserule it slightly, making it fit my Tekumel a little better. I have yet to try RQ/BRP. I still have the 3rd ed hack from the net, but lost the 2nd edition one (if anyone still has that). However, I hadn't thought about using Classic Traveller. That might be fun, although you'd need to bolt magic on (Psionics?). I'd love to see an attempt, if anyone does it.
