I thought I had read this somewhere, but could not remember for the life of me where! Thank you for the clarification. I still wonder if someone can get into the tubeways via these long platform stations.

    Lord Shemek,

You are very welcome. Here is a bit more from my notes(Uncle's words):

"You can't go in the tubes and survive; there's no air in them. They are maintained at a very low pressure, almost a vacuum, and there's also usually a very, very long drop to get past at the station opening. There is also only very faint, very dim lighting in the tunnels, so it's very hard to see. And you can't use magic, either; the tubeways are lined with metal plates. And the cars move at supersonic speeds, so you can get squished really easily."

It may be possible to get onto the floor of the tunnel in the station, but to venture into the tunnel itself...Ahhhh!!! Not to mention the Bronze Demons and other Inimicals lurking about!!! Unless we find a section of tubeway that does not function allowing us to explore...

    Mayhem Ensues,

Does Tekumel have anything like a crocodile?
The native Tekumelyani sea life is fiercer and more deadly than any Terran creatures.
I don't care if you respect me, just buy my fucking book.

Personally, I treat Feshenga as crocodiles. IIRC the rules state they attack on sight, but to me that is a very simplistic, even juvenile, way of running things. In MY TEKUMEL they swim about just like Nile crocodiles or Australian Salties do in the present day. They like to lie on the banks of the rivers and soak up the sun, the lazy beasts!

I also freely add other creatures. As everything I do is more miniature based and more wargame than RPG, I like to have miniatures for everything including the physical manifestations of spells. Barzoomian creatures and D&D monsters - many of which often seem like imitations of, or inspired by, Tekumel monsters. (Just as many Tekumel monsters are inspired by earlier D&D creatures.) Call of Cthulhu also provides many flora as well as fauna. :-)

I should add that the Dodo, is alive and well on MY TEKUMEL. Several species of, actually, b/c of different manufacturers making miniatures in different sizes! The Freebooter Dodos are what the Tsolyani call the Kaika. :-)

    YMMV.

And I have both, courtesy of IKEA and the Coca-Cola Company. I'll bring them, next Saturday.

I personally don't know, never having been chased by them in my long career. Having said that, given that the Lords of Humanspace were Not Nice People, and given to indulging themselves in the slightest whims, it would not surprise me that some of this fauna made it to some jaded lord's garden menagerie - and that the things eventually got loose. Phil himself noted that Tekumel is a big planet, with lots of room - and that while we don't have horses in the Five Empires, they were found over on the other side of the planet by the party at one point. See also my reply to Gronan, which reflects years of gamin with Phil.

I was recently looking at the drawings of the tubeway cars, on the yahoo site, and was wondering about the large "pill shaped" ones, the troop carriers. How do they traverse the tubeways? The small private ones (like the one in Flamesong) seem to access the system via openings in the floor, in straight vertical drops, making the actual tube inaccessible to adventurers. But would the larger ones use some type of "horizontal" shaft opening located on a "wall" that could be accessed on foot, and presumably traversed/explored?
They run like the sphere's, just not to all the 'local' stations; only to the big nodal ones. Yes; we've been to some of the big 'interchange' stations, where it's a huge hall with many, many openings for tubeways in the walls and floors, and a huge 'hangar' where the cars change routes and get serviced. I would not step out of the car, but Origo did.

Mayhem ensued; hoo, boy, did mayhem ensue!!!

See previous comment. Possibly. Maybe. Go exploring, and let us know what you find. Assuming you come back, of course...

Agreed. What we're looking at here is a mish-mash of galactic ecologies, where the surviving creatures are the ones who have, well, survived. We do know that some Terran creatures have been brought to the planet, and survived; I'd really hate to see what's happened to (say) a crocodile after a thousand generations of Darwinian selection. The stuff we ran into was bad enough, and we managed to stay out of the really bad areas.
