Agreed. Jeff does solid work, I think. I think it'll be a good addition to what we know about Tekumel.

I'm currently putting together a less-ambitious one-shot, where my players would wake up as amnesic lab-experiments, deep inside a Ksarul temple. I'm not quite certain where that secret temple would be at this point: I'm considering putting it on some other plane, or somewhere on Tekumel prime itself, maybe near or under the city of Hmakuyal.

Speaking of which, Lord Chirine, did you ever visit Hmakuyal in your many adventures? If yes, do you remember anything specific about that ruined city? I know there's some information about those ruins in the Blue Room archives (which I have tracked down), but perhaps do you have something specific to recount?
Yes, we did; the 'ruins' are still nice and ruined, but there is a lot of 'covert' activity in and around the site. Casual tourists are allowed, going off the beaten track will get the attention of the custodians of the various hidden shrines. Which are not all that hidden, actually, but they do not have the welcome mat out for people - unless you have the right connections, of course.

We travelled through the place in the early days - it was one of Phil's 'must see' 'tourist spots' - but as usually happened it turned into a 'stop gawking and run for our lives' kind of thing. Wrong kind of connections, it seemed.

And, If I may say, you'll have to be more specific in your questions. I can do several thousand words on what we did while we were there, but I don't think it'd all fit in posts here. I will be talking about this - as I am about so many other things - in the book, specifically in One.

    Default Q & A format...

I'm sorry to be annoying, but I would like to mention that fairly broad questions and inquiries are going to get fairly broad and kind of vague answers for me. I'd like to remind people that I have a huge amount of data to hand, and that forum posts are maybe not the best place for long-winded answers. It's easier for me to talk at length in person, either by voice / e-mail / face to face, as I'm dyslexic and type pretty slowly. I also prefer not to retype sections from Phil's texts as answers; I'd much rather you discover his genius for yourself.

    Thanks.

    Bob?

I sent that link b/c I intend on using the "sleazy merchant" figure for the General. :-)

    Oh, right, makes sense now.

Bob is the owner of The Source Comics and Games, here in the Twin Cities, and played General Karim Missum to great effect in Phil's campaign for years. I think you can get a hold of him via the 'contact us' part of the store's website - www.sourcecandg.com, I think.

Thinking about the ever traveling cart ...
Are the clans that handle the transport of goods empire wide?
Would there be competition between different clans in basically the same business or have they all been consolidated over the years?

I'm wondering if there would be fun gaming in delivering things across the empire or even across a city.

Well, there are lots and lots of different clans that all do this kind of work; some are purely local, some regional, some national, and some even international. Yes, there is competition - very spirited 'bidding for contracts, as it were - but hiring one of the clans is usually done by one's own clan in accordance with one's alliances and friendships amongst the transport clans. Between them, too, are all sort of alliances and 'mutual aid pacts'; my cart has been serviced by a multitude of clans and people over the years.

As an example of how this works, I hired some bearers and carts from a clan I had dealt with during my time in the Glorious General's legion; they, in turn, hired people and carts as needed from the clans that they deal with for such things. The locals packed up all of my worldly good, under the supervision of the Lady of the House, and then turned over all the packed baskets, chests, and crates to the regional movers for onward shipment. I still have all of them under contract, so their clans send out people, etc., as needed for my travels.

Shipping by water also works this way, in that the 'movers' that one hires will book transport as needed, which is how Blazoned Sail comes into the story.

I think it's be really fun to do this as a campaign!
