The Five Empires on our part of Tekumel are many times more sophisticated than any Meso-American culture; in engineering skill, education, clothing, agriculture, religion, pretty much everything. Imperial China is sophisticated enough, but the details are not quite right. I do like the movie "The Curse of the Golden Flower" as a great representation of Palace Intrigue.

    Default The Vengeance of Grai

And speaking of General Karin Missum, he features prominently in a scenario I am developing called "The Vengeance of Grai". Here is the flame-happy General in party mode: :-)

The scenario will take place one evening in his pleasure palace in the suburbs north of Bey Su. Think "Revenge of the 47 Ronin" transplanted on Tekumel...

They're going to attack a bureaucrat over an inept, drunken superior who didn't even manage to kill said bureaucrat when he was unarmed?
"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place, and I don't care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward." - Rocky

More power to Jeff Dee for dealing with them.

    Indeed.

I look forward to the Kurt Hills atlas, which I hope will be good and find something like an audience (even a small one). After all, it's the first original Tekumel world-guide in a many years.

    That sounds like good fun.

I'm currently putting together a less-ambitious one-shot, where my players would wake up as amnesic lab-experiments, deep inside a Ksarul temple. I'm not quite certain where that secret temple would be at this point: I'm considering putting it on some other plane, or somewhere on Tekumel prime itself, maybe near or under the city of Hmakuyal.

Speaking of which, Lord Chirine, did you ever visit Hmakuyal in your many adventures? If yes, do you remember anything specific about that ruined city? I know there's some information about those ruins in the Blue Room archives (which I have tracked down), but perhaps do you have something specific to recount?

As do I. Not sure how it compares to the Northwest Gazetteer, but from what I have seen as a backer it is very good!!!

Despite the Keshchal plumes and Tekumelani design hoo-hah, Tsolyanu probably shares more with "western" civilizations than it does with, say, your average preclassic or late classic Mayan kingdom.
Agreed. The more one knows about historical cultures and societies, I think it gets easier and easier to run Tekumel the way Phil did.

I'm sorry; the link sends me to a page about Alex Bates' 'Forge of Ice' "Sleazy Merchant and Drowzy Sentries"; not that I mind, as it's a great set!

Great scenario, though. Have you run it past Bob?
