I don't recall Phil having e-e-elephants. He might have... those cabinets had a LOT of stuff in them.

Somebody now does 20mm plastic Teutonic Knights and Russians. Hoo, boy, is THAT tempting...
I don't care if you respect me, just buy my fucking book.

I'm just happy to have the energy to get back to model-building and painting again; it's been a very long 'dry spell' since the late unpleasantness of last year, and I'm happy to have it all behind me. Getting the shop cleaned out and getting back to dormant projects has been a tonic, and I'm finally starting to enjoy my hobby again.
Hey no prob, just enjoy what you're doing

I didn't see any while I was doing the inventory, so who knows. Did find out today from Karim Missum who painted a lot of his 'off' figures, armies that he built to fight with his own favorites. Very interesting conversation!

I saw those today, and instantly thought of you and the Gary Con game. If you wanted 25mm / 28mm, Fire Forge Games has everybody - Germans, Swedes, and Russians. The Russians are almost dead on for the household troops in "Alex", an I am truly sorely tempted... !

Now, if I could get good miniatures of Gavrilo and Buslai, and their ladies from Great Lord Novgorod and poor battered Pskov, there'd be no questions at all!!!

I'm not sure about the 20mm ones; see my reply to Gronan about the hard styrene ones from Fire Forge.

I love Zvezda - when you can get them, they make the most useful stuff!

yeah its kind of too bad they went all "Art of Tactic." Lovely pieces, don't get me wrong but now the cavalry are packs of three, when it used to be packs of 17. Infantry are now packs of 5? Makes it hard to build the "big battalions"

Oh, yes, I'd very strongly agree with this. I'd kind of prefer to have my figures in bulk, so I can build my own units, rather then in the unit size specified by the proprietary rules. I got the Victrix sets today as they're both 'bulk' packs of 24-27 figures and good value for money. I also like the separate limbs, too; you can get a lot of variation in the poses in a unit with very little work, and if the figures have open hands it's even better.

I also got a sad little box of Wargames Factory Late Republican Romans that had been mis-packed originally, with double the number of one sprue and none of a second; the issue which got the 75% discount was that the second sprue had all of the right arms for all of the figures. I'll salvage what I can; I bought the box for the three sprues of nice shields - 48 of 'em - which will come in handy. I think the line is out of production, but I can always use spare parts...

Speaking of republican Rome, it occurs to me that if you were to set an RPG in the late Roman republic, or maybe the early empire, the play and the interpersonal dynamics would be much like playing in Tsolyanu. Gens instead of clan, family instead of lineage, not so much communal living maybe, so the names would change and there'd be some difference in the details for sure, but if you were a citizen of the Republic, the ways you'd game your gens, family, the status issues, the opportunities or lack of them, the in-game interactions, could all be much like playing a citizen of Tsolyanu.

Despite the Keshchal plumes and Tekumelani design hoo-hah, Tsolyanu probably shares more with "western" civilizations than it does with, say, your average preclassic or late classic Mayan kingdom.
