Exactly, and at the end of the day, when all is said and done, you don't owe anyone squat. If they don't like how, or why, you game then screw them. We all enjoy our hobby for different reasons, and the why is secondary. I know that a lot of people would hate my type/style of gaming, but my group likes it and they keep coming back for more. This is good enough for me. When it is no longer fun, the books go back on the shelf, the dice in the desk drawer, and I go back to painting miniatures and building models. The last time it got "unfun" I didn't game for about 8 years. No biggy. As I believe you and Gronan have said before "No gaming is better than bad gaming." I agree.

Agreed. I think that a lot of my current lack-of-interest stems from being told that my kind of gaming "isn't real / serious gaming", and I think I'm fine with that. The flip side of this is that I then don't play with those people or with their groups, and they get bent out of shape about it. I don't have to play - I derive quite satisfactory amounts of enjoyment from my hobby, and only a portion of that hobby includes game sessions. In effect, I'm leaving the areas of the gaming hobby (and industry!) that I don't enjoy, and moving more and more back to 'the basics' of what I enjoy.

And if anyone wants to come along for the ride; they are more then welcome to join me!

I'd agreed with all this. My Missus made the point recently that we've paid our dues in the hobby and in the industry; all of our life together over the past three decades has revolved around doing that, and now we're stepping back and casting off from the dock to go in our own direction; we've spend the last thirty years (forty, in my case) making other peoples' dreams come true, and now we're taking that same time, energy, and resources to make our own dreams come true. No Kickstarters, no fund-raisers, no commercial products or involvements; just some some people sitting around a table laughing their fool heads off. In short, what we had back in the dawn of time...

And a lot of pretty amazing things have all come together to make our dreams come true. We've been gearing up for this for literally years - the comb binder gear we bought six years ago is an example of this - and I'm taking delivery of the final element in our plans on Saturday. Major changes to our lives coming; and good ones, we think.

Some very good gaming, on our terms, impends...

I've been looking at the Dark Fable Anubi preview pics and wondering what Qon masks would look like... :-)

Funny you should ask; I had the same question back in '76, when I was converting poor Priests of Hru'u and Vimuhla into the rest of the Twenty. Phil smiled, and pointed to Anubis The Wonder Dog - his ancient Black Labrador - and said "Why do you think I named him that?" He hadn't done a sketch for the miniatures list he'd done for Bill Murray, but I think he did later on - it's in the archives, I seem to recall, and I'll have a look when I have a moment. Given Phil's love of Ancient Egypt, I think we're on safe ground with the Dark Fable figures...

The Empire of the Petal Throne thread reminded me of something from one of the novels I keep forgetting to ask about. Their is a rather graphic poisoning in one of the last three books (Clash of Kings, I think). How easy is it to lay your hands on deadly poisons? Can just anybody pop down to a Clan of CVS or a Walgreen Clan's shoppe and pick some up? Or are they only for certain clans/careers?

Pretty easily. You do indeed pop down to one of the apothecary clans and buy what you want from them. Now, as you point out, anybody who is not known for being 'in the trade' like a sorcerer, priest, etc., will raise some eyebrows, and the sellers will keep a record in case somebody suddenly turns up dead so that they can let the dead person's clan know what might have happened. Oh, and for covering themselves with the Imperium, too.

It's one of the things that I think makes Tekumel so much fun - people are polite to each other, even when they are the bitterest of enemies, because the possible sanctions available to the members of the society are so utterly lethal in both a social and physical sense.
