I understand that, Uncle. What one wonders is how much clout in real-world politics could be achieved by controlling gamer politics, given that it's usually more interested in areas which make more money...
I agree, it's sad.I don't associate with people like that, which is why I will be skipping the Blackmoor game this Sunday being run by Robert the Bald, one of the original players. I've had it with the crap over who did what fifty years ago, and who's got the biggest pile of old D&D stuff.
An apprentice it shall be, then. Whatever the Respectable Teacher says!I'd call them 'an apprentice', but yes, it's wonderful.
You're welcome, Uncle! I can do the same for most games I've played, including presumably "heavy and crunchy" ones.Agreed.
This, too!
And thank you for the precis of the FATE game - makes a lot more sense then what I was seeing in the hard-bound books I was shown.
About the only games where I can't do the same, are from D&D3+ and its derivatives.
It's all good when it ends well, and this sounds like it ended well.
I understand, Glorious General - but see above about the sources of one's misunderstanding!
Sound like the people who still keep debating whether a very close battle between two martial artists, who fought about 250 years ago, was a draw!My Jedi powers tell me that that's not about EPT, but rather "Gygax vs Arneson." And I couldn't agree more... that is getting very, very old.
"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place, and I don't care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward." - Rocky

Oh? Really? What a load of nonsense. Phil didn't even get to the Twin Cities until 1973. and didn't meet Dave Arneson until later that year. The historical documentation doesn't tally with the blogger's assumption. The Tekumel Foundation was trying to push the notion of Gary and Dave stealing the idea of RPGs from Phil in order to publish D&D, and I had to point out that there's just no documentation or information to support this notion. Near as I can make out, it's all Gronan's fault for introducing Phil to D&D in his Ram's Horn Campaign in the summer / fall of '73. From there, Dave found out about Tekumel, told Gary, and they agreed that it would make a viable product.
Imperium - red, small format
AGI - black, small format
Tekumel Games - red, small format
TOME - black, large format.
Yes; we were working from the original printing plates, so had to use the same format.
Yes.
No. They all say 'Tekumel Games' on them. About 120 copies, from the records on file.
So probably the Tekumel Games bindings are the rarest of the lot? Even rarer than the actual first edition?
Also, what was that textured applique stuff? It sort of reminded me of the rubbery press-on designs you used to see in t-shirt shops in the 70s, but I have no idea what it is exactly

It's all about prestige, status, and identity. People feel important because they have their picture taken with an important person, or claim that because they were the 'special friend' of somebody famous then they are 'special' and 'important' people.
I agree, it's sad.
Yep. The LGBTQ+ aspect is particulaly depressing, as Tekumel is actually pretty LGBTQ+ friendly; the notion that Phil actively persecuted gay people in his campaign or because he was a devout Muslim is utter nonsense. Ask Gronan; he was there.
An apprentice it shall be, then. Whatever the Respectable Teacher says!
I dunno; I think it just fits better to the situation.

Thank you - I'm much more into setting then crunch, but I'll keep it in mind.

Yep; we paid about $500 less then what we had expected, and the van is back. Just in time; I took delivery of ten large storage bins - like the wooden ammunition chests Gronan and I used to tote around for the 'Akbar And Jeff Road Show' - and they fit the van like they were made for it. A whole bunch of stuff has really come together in the past couple of weeks, and I am really hyped about getting back into harness!

Great! The idea, such as it is, would be to have an open house here at the old barn for a while, and then move up a notch into someplace like FFG's Event Center. We did something like this a few years back, and it was astonishingly successful - we had guests in from all over, and as far away as Florida. All of the logistical elements to make this possible have now all slid into place, and we can host a pretty good crowd out of in-house assets. One thing I've learned - or had engraved on my heart in blood - is that I need to have all of the assets required for an event in-hand before the event; like with my supplying all of the figures, scenery, rules, etc. for game I've found that I simply can't reply on people (with some exceptions, of course!) to show up on time or on budget for things.
So, starting very small and intimate, and growing over time to small and intimate. I has a plan, and I is following it...
