    You're welcome!

I don't let this kind of malarky get me down; the antics of the TF are, to be frank, irrelevant to what I do in my game room and in my gaming life. What the Missus and the Five Daughters want and think is a lot more important to me and to us - they are, I should note, very supportive and helpful. The Missus has just tracked down and got me a lovely Mattel Vac-u-Form set - online at Goodwill in Arizona, would you believe! - to add to my model-building capacities. They paid for the set of Skyline displays we got over the past year, just so I could have a much nicer presence when I do have 'public appearances'; the Daughter-in-Residence, in her job in Switzerland, does trade shows for a living and thought it would be nice if her dad had the same kind of thing.

Having a grand time here, too; pained some more of one of the two Roman cohorts for the 'Legend of Cleopatra' Braunstein.

Ask away. This is all of you good folks' thread, not mine. As I've said, I'm here to let you look into the world that I came from, all those Tuesday and Thursday nights ago...

Oh, sweet Isis, I want to be in "Legend of Cleopatra."

"That's nice, dear, because Auntie Elizabeth is about to barf."
I don't care if you respect me, just buy my fucking book.

I've never had any problem getting complete newbies to game in Tekumel.

I have had trouble getting people who know Tekumel to do so, and I've struggled (and often failed) to keep those newbies gaming after they go online and look for the 'Tekumel community'.

Rough estimate, three out of four get grossed out or upset and want not to be involved or connected to it. I don't even call what I do Tekumel any more, just let people know it's "inspired by" Tekumel.

chriine have you checked out The Petal Hack? It is a 64 page introduction to EPT using the stripped down D&D Black Hack OSR system. And it's free.

I helped out a bit with The Petal Hack as a playtester and I've run a few games here in the UK where there is still a good number of folk who enjoy playing in Tekumel. I also did a Lulu print run and give away printed copies to players in my games who express and interest in running games themselves.

The Petal Hack is excellently put together, and since it's based on the most popular RPG system ever, players feel (rightly so) that they don't have to learn a new system.

Now to release a decent starter adventure with it!

In that department, the "Runequest Quickstart" (available here for free), a PDF that Chaosium recently released, stands as a good example of what to do to attract curious players: not only does it contain a nice overview of the new edition's core rules, but it also contains an excellent adventure that's fun and moody, and that offers opportunities to learn about the world at large and its core themes.

The same done for the world of Tekumel would be very nice indeed.

I think you'd enjoy this game, my General. It's the Great Mos Eisley Spaceport Raid writ large, using the forty years of gaming and modeling experience that I've gotten under my belt since that fateful Saturday at Coffman Union. You have your choice of four settings for the game: Lord Meren's Egypt, John Carter's Barsoom, Chirine ba Kal's Tekumel, or Cleopatra's Aegypt. The basic game board / set up stays pretty much the same - aircars get swapped out for giant Sphinxes towed by armies of sweating slaves - and we just replace one set of miniatures for another. Yes, my General, I now have enough miniatures to run four seperate Mos Eisley Spaceport Raids. Everything I've learned from Wesley, Arneson, Barker, and Gygax all distilled into one game and done in my very best swashbuckling SuperTechoRama epic style.

When will this game / games be happening? When somebody books me and a space to run it in.

Agreed! I have had the very same thing happen with new players. They play with me, get all enthusiastic, get on line with 'The Community', get bored and discouraged, and leave to play something else. I've also had people come to me and say "I wish I had found you before I had found the on-line Tekumel fans; you make Tekumel fun!" Heck, even Pundit said something to this effect, which I think is a pretty sad commentary on Tekumel fandom. I see a huge difference between 'Tekumel fans' and 'fans of Tekumel'. There are a lot of the latter, hereabouts.

Yes, I have. Brett Slocum, the author, is an old friend.
