House Synchuval

Volm Synchuval, the lord of the manor. (Belaran)


Volm is a litigant, and a very good one at that. While epitomizing the Belaran stereotype of honesty and integrity, he is nonetheless a shrewd and successful barrister. Volm greatly enjoys his study and practice of Belaran law, and does not look forward to the eventuality that he must enter diplomatic service, as his father did before him.

All of Volm's life centers upon his legal practice. He has immersed himself in study since childhood, and his teen years were spent absorbing countless volumes in university libraries. Volm relishes the memories of his clerk years, and particularly enjoys recounting his first meeting with Evin when he worked in the high court.

Evin Synchuval, the lady of the manor. (Belaran)

"You may not dishonor your family. Duty and honor are greater than personal sacrifice."

Her mother's words have haunted Evin since her father's sudden and early death. At her mother's insistence, Evin was destined to wed Volm before she ever met the aspiring lawyer. Her life has seen years of personal sacrifice, and will so continue. Her vows to her husband, while not given in love, were spoken with the bond of duty and honor. She receives, but does not truly return her husband's love. But Evin is the faithful wife, and even with her mother's passing, she will not bring dishonor to herself or her family.

Mir is a quiet and beautiful woman with a wisdom surpassing her youth. She loves her father, and it saddens her to know that he must someday depart from a career he cherishes to pursue a career he does not desire. She loves her mother, and knows in her heart that her mother does not truly love Volm. Mir does not share her parents' devotion to do that which is expected, and she desperately seeks to avoid the same entrapment.

Thoru is a fine house guard. Brief service in the Belaran cavalry hardened his self-disipline, and he is a loyal, skilled warrior. Thoru is also completely infatuated with Mir Synchuval. He has carefully concealed his emotions, but knows he cannot ignore them forever.
