Nurvell Manor Personalities

(Mansion 005)

Nurvell Manor

Yog Breff, the lord of the manor. (Sonhali)

"Lotta human never seen a Sonhali. They think us orcs. We not orcs, we Sonhali. We merchants. We go any place, buy good, sell good, make gold. We not spies. Talk just one good we buy an' sell."

Yog Breff is a fine specimen of a Sonhali, and is quick to educate anyone who suggests anything less. He is a highly successful merchant who can now afford to live in stationary comfort. To those who doubt his merchant prowess, look around. His manor once belonged to a rival merchant whose failing businesses translated into good fortune for Yog. No, he didn't steal old Nurvell's house or business. And if Nurvell hadn't killed himself after losing everything, you could ask him too.

"Sonhali are humanoid in form and man-sized, but exceedingly ugly by human standards. They are usually obese, with dull, hairless, olive-green skin. Their facial features are broad and prominent, with faded, yellow eyes that have no discernible iris. Instead of teeth, the Sonhali possess a hard, sharp bone ridge that protrudes from the upper and lower gums within their elongated jaws. Their toenails and fingernails grow very slowly, but are exceedingly hard and carefully sharpened.

Sonhali appear to take great delight in their appearance, and the uneasy response they receive from most humans. They rarely wear clothing upon their upper torso, and frequently pierce their folds of fleshy skin with gold and ivory rings and studs. It is apparent that they enjoy promoting their reputations as uncouth animals, and they happily mock theatres, circuses and other "civilized" entertainments. But the Sonhali are rarely satisfied with meager existences, and they heavily indulge in material comforts, with particular fondnesses for fine clothing, food, drink, perfumes, scented oils, and chewing tobacco.

Though oftentimes considered more akin to orcs than humans, Sonhali are most appropriately categorized as human. Though their apparent racial similarities to orc species prove problematic, the Sonhali nonetheless move relatively unscathed through the nations of mankind. Most are nomadic and tenacious merchants, willing to trade in any commodity, and following the lure of gold wherever it is found. Their unlikely success in merchanting endeavors is to be highly commended, for it is most certainly a credit to their persistency, and not their charisma..."

Yog is an avid trader of specialized commodities. He embraces good relations with fellow traders who acquire small, valuable items that they are interested in selling quickly, at very reasonable prices. Yog's caravans broker these goods to contacts in other cities, and Yog collects hefty profits. And no, he is not a thief. What another man does for a living is not his business. Yet with all of his merchanting, Yog's most lucrative trade is information. Yog has many rogues, scouts, spies, and informants on his payroll, and he makes good use of them all.

Thok owes a great deal of money for his gambling debts, a fact that Yog's rivals have kept quiet and intend to exploit to its fullest potential.

Lud was too seriously injured to continue as a guard, but as he healed, he helped with the cooking. Yog's healthy appetite took immediate notice of Lud's cooking talents, and he offered Lud a permanent job for which the lad was much more suited.
